isn't nature the most artistic element of all?
I have always had an affinity with nature. When I was a small child, my father would quiet the sleepless nights of my crying by lighting candles. Apparently I would stare in wonder at the flame for long periods of time. I am told it was the only thing to calm me at times. FIRE an element of nature I still adore, as I am a major campfire and candle lover. The constant kinetic movement of the flame of a candle is mesmerizing, even meditative. In fact, there are meditation techniques that incorporate candle gazing as a practice.
Then there is AIR and wind. When I lived in upstate New York, on a mountaintop nestled in 150 acres, I would listen to the wind whistle during the winter months. The woodstove was blazing as I watched the flames in peace and listened. I listened to the blowing, howling wind batter the farmhouse while I sat safely inside. The wind would cause the snow to blow, the trees to sway. Absolute beauty.
Earth...I miss living on the land so much. I am a country, mountain and lake girl. The smell of earth in the spring when the dirt is thawing and the new growth of living plants begin to wake up is one of the most wonderful smells in the world. Being able to walk through the forest, feel the earth under my feet is heavenly. To this day, if I have the choice, I will always choose to go barefoot on the grass or sand. Not only is walking on the earth barefoot sensual, but it is energetically grounding. I also love digging in the dirt, AKA gardening.
WATER! I am a triple fire sign in my astrological chart. Water is an element which calms me, brings me peace and balance. Being born in the great state of Michigan (on Lake Huron), I was close to the Great Lakes throughout my life. Since moving to Savannah, I continue to become accustomed to the ocean. The ocean is different energy than the Great Lakes. Many think "small" when they think of "lake." However, the Great Lakes are called that because they are as vast as an ocean. One cannot see the other side of a Great Lake. Many ships have been taken by the waters of the Lakes; they are just as powerful as any ocean in their own way. But, there is something sacred about an ocean I thought only the Great Lakes to have. It feels as if I am acutely aware of the beginning of all life as I approach the ocean. An ancient respect fills my soul.
It was such a great gift to introduce my little baby, Prince, to the great Atlantic Ocean. I do consider Nature the ultimate ART, as I mentioned in my very first entry. It was a joy and privilege to observe his first experience of the Ocean. He was apprehensive, and displayed a fear but not a normal fear. His fear was more of a healthy respectful fear of the great water. He had to inspect the glorious sand, running around and sniffing everything, of course. And I followed in bare feet, relishing the experience as well. When he approached the shoreline, he would hide behind me at first as the waves came on the shore. He eventually got the nerve to back up when the water came up and when the foam rolled back out, he would bark at it and follow it. What a beautiful thing to share nature with a loved one (tee hee).
NATURE IS ART. period.
